== == By defnition it is the fiftieth day after Passover. It started out as a Jewish holiday and was adopted by Christians. Depending upon what church you belong to, the significance varies. its after 50 days Jesus was crucified that his apostle had the holy spirit come in and fill 'em up! It is an offshoot of the Jewish holy day Shavuot. Shavuot, which means "weeks" in Hebrew, is due to the conclusion of the ritual of counting of omer. It incidentally falls on fifty days after Passover on the Jewish calendar. Due to the occurance of the events documented in the Christian book of Acts among a group of Christians who incidentally gathered during Shavuot, the day gained significance for those events rather than the significance of the ritual of omer counting. Those events led to the spiritual empowerment of Christians to practice and spread their religion in the midst of Roman persecution. Literature written in Greek thus gave the Greek name Pentecost for that day as it occurs fifty days after Passover. Early Christianity had sought to distance itself away from Judaism like shifting the sabbath to Sunday and moving Easter away from Passover. Therefore, Pentecost is no longer celebrated on the same day as Shavuot. Rather it is celebrated on the Sunday, forty-nine days after Easter Sunday. Therefore, the term "Pentecost" also signifies Christian spiritual empowerment. Evidence to that is Pentecostal Christianity. Pentecostal Christianity is a persuasion that believes that Christians should relive the experience and events that took place during the first Pentecost after the crucifixion of Jesus. Practitioners of "Pentecost" theology are mostly among the Pentecostal denomination, though it has spreaded to evangelical Christians of other denominations and even among Catholics. Pentecostal Christianity had its roots in the rural south of the USA during late 19th and early 20th century among Christians who had experienced the "Pentecost" phenomena similar to those documented in the book of Acts. Pentecost is a Jewish feast which included the offering of two loaves of unleavened bread representing the first fruits of the harvest (see Lev. 23:17-20 , Deut. 16:9-10). Christ was crucified on Passover and Pentecost (which means 'count fifty') is 50 days after Passover. In the Christian Church Pentecost is also the anniversary of the coming of the Holy Spirit (see Acts 2), and Jesus is the First Fruit of the Harvest.
Pentacost was the anointing of the apostles by tongues of flame some time after the ascension of christ
