The basic idea behind the HD-DVD is really simple -- it looks like a DVD and acts like a DVD, but it holds more information. A DVD holds about two hours of standard definition video, but an HD-DVD can hold about 48 hours.

Also its better quality, this website has most of the details.

How do you tell if you DVD player is a HD player?

Any DVD player that is capable of playing HD material will have a logo on it to announce that it is HD capable. Look for either a BluRay logo or HDDVD logo. Even better, take a look at the manual.

Do HD DVD's play only on HD DVD players?

Yes. only HDDVDs play on HDDVD players. Even if you could play HDDVDs on standard sets, the picture would be the same as a regular DVD. This is because all standard sets display only one resolution of 480i.

Is Metal Gear Solid coming out on the xbox 360?

No. The amount of memory, and the usage of cell processor would make it practically impossible to port it to the Xbox 360 The Xbox 360 doesn't have hddvd (it was discontinued). And uses dual layer dvds, which are about 8 gb. 7 discs (maybe even more) would not be very profitable. And I'm sure the person you know is just blowing smoke out of his %@$. Stop dreaming about things that are not going to happen your console. If you wanted MGS4, then you should have bought a PlayStation 3. metal gear solid is now on xbox 360 only certain ones only.

Why do all the videos and movies you try to watch on your computer freeze?

Could be missing or corrupt codecs. Try kLite Mega Codec Pack, it comes with Media Player Classic. Another good video player is VLC. Between those two players and the latest codec pack, it should play every audio and video format out there. Could be outdated hardware. If you're trying to play HDDVD or BlueRay in a system with an AGP graphics card, the older AGP cards might not handle it. I've had trouble running DVD on a Pentium III. Could be failing hardware. Does your vid card have a fan on it? Does the fan make noise? Is there dust between the fan and heatsink? If you find dust, use a can of duster to clean the heatsink (do not spin the fan with the duster, it can damage the fan).

Is blu ray better than other DVD players?

BluRay is the name of a high definition DVD player, developed by Sony. The alternative is HDDVD released by Toshiba at around the same time. In terms of image quality, there is little to choose between them but it is commercial considerations that separate them. BluRay has captured the majority of the market and most of the large distribution companies have opted to support BluRay rather than HD DVD. The battle between the two formats looks to have been won by BluRay and Toshiba are reluctantly admitting that HD DVD will give way to Sony's product. While HD DVD is not quite dead yet, opinions within the trade suggest that HD DVD will not be around for a great deal longer. Both formats will play standard definition DVDs so they will replace existing DVD players.

What is correct way to get a Blu-ray disc to play in a 1080i hdtv with HD sound and picture on a Blu-ray player?

The way to get your blu ray disc to play in 1080i on a blu ray player set up to a sony bravia hdtv or hdtv is you just put it in the blu ray player when you have the tv and blu ray player ready to play it, just put it in close it and it takes a minute for it to load, then it starts up, then it plays and then skip all the previous if you want, some of the previous may not let you skip them, then once your on the main menu there is the choice to play it or go to the main menu. if you you want the main menu, then just click it and it'll take you right to it. if you want to play the movie then click play movie!. It's as easy as that said here in this reply by me but, let me just give you some smart advise, and that is don't buy any more standard dvds because eventually the blu ray discs are gonna take over hddvd and standard DVD because blu ray discs have oddicial won the DVD vs. hddvd vs. blu ray war!!! =). so for any ofyou people out there whos already gotten hddvds and not blu rays, I'm sorry to say, your gonna seriously have to start re-buying all of you hddvds and DVD all completely on blu ray discs!. O!, and one last thing to tell you all all blu rays luckily are in widescreen!, which means it shows the entire picture but might have the black bars on top and bottem if the disc case for the blu rau disc says widescreen it'll have the black bars on top and bottem but, here is the catch to it!, if it says enhanced for widscreen television it wont have the back bars but it'll still be widecreen and it'll show the whole picture and covering the whole screen!!!.
