Barack Obama's father was Barack H. Obama, Sr., (1936 - 1982), who was originally from Kenya. He and Ann Dunham, the President's mother, met while they were students at the University of Hawaii. His father was an international student from Kenya on scholarship. Dunham and Obama Sr. married in 1961 and were divorced in 1964, eventually Barack Obama, Sr. returned to Africa. Both went on to remarry.

∙ 13y agoBarack Obama's stepfather, Lolo Soetoro, was born in 1935 in Bandung, West Jave, Dutch East Indies (which became Indonesia in 1945). He met Obama's mother while he was studying for his Masters degree at the University of Hawaii, where the then Ann Dunham was also a student.
