Density cannot be measured; it can only be calculated by the formula: density = mass/volume

Hydrometer

Personally the only intruments you need is a formula, wieghing machiene and the knowledge of the area. Does this help?

There is no real "Instrument" to measure density, but there is a way to find out. First you need a triple beam balance, to measure the mass of the object. After you find out the mass, you need to find the volume, height X width X length, whitch will equal the volume, after that, you need to divide mass, by the volume, then BOOM! you get you answer to density.

NOTE: This is off the top of my mind, I did do a little "refreashing" but I believe it to be right. IF - Only IF I'm wrong, sorry! But I do believe that I am right.

The answer to What instruments do u use to measure density is balance and gradulated cylinder

Density is the mass of a substance in a single UNIT of volume Usually GRAM per CUBIC CENTIMETRE. You need a container which has a volume of exactly 1cc (cubic centimetre) or a lump of the solid which has been cut to measure 1 cm on all edges (a centimeter cube) now you need weighing Scales to find out how much the Cubic cm. weighs. Result is written thus: e.g. 56 gm/cc. Or lb/ ft cubes (pound per cubic foot) you may prefer to have a result in lb/ inch cubed.

i believe you use a triple scale balance beam and a graduated cylinder

2. Density is defined as the mass per unit volume.

To calculate density, we will need to weigh our specimen, and ten to measure its volume.

For that we will need a mass balance or scale; and a measuring stick of appropriate size.

If your sample is of inconvenient shape, then you can determine its volume by immersion in a suitable liquid.

1. The tools you would use to measure density are measurement , and water displacement

Density is calculated as mass over volume

"Densitometere" is the device that measures density.

A hydrometer measures the density of a fluid.

Pycnometer to measure density

Density cannot be measured directly. You must find the mass of the liquid and its volume. You would use a graduated cylinder to measure the volume of a liquid, and you would use a scale or balance to measure its mass. To measure the mass, first measure the mass of an empty beaker or cylinder. Then place the entire volume of the liquid into the beaker. Then measure the mass of the beaker or cylinder with the liquid. Subtract the first mass measurement from the second mass measurement. The result is the mass of the liquid. Then, use the density equation, density = mass/volume, to calculate the density of the liquid.

a beaker and you use displacement to figure out the density.

to use displacement you fill the beaker up with water then you measure it. Next you submerge the object in the water and measure that to get your density.

Density is determined by weight divided by volume. To measure the weight, use a scale of some kind (a triple beam balance is good). To measure the volume, if the object has an irregular shape you would use a graduated cylinder, to find out how much water it displaces. If it has a regular shape, then it is just a matter of measuring it with a ruler and doing the geometrical calculation.

since density is mass / volume, you need only to measure the volume of the substance, and its mass. there are many various instruments to do both of these measurements.

Density is not measured directly. You need to determine the mass and volume of the substance you are interested in. Then divide the mass by the volume to get density (density = mass/volume).

What is used to measure density?

A very common instrument for the direct measurement of the density of a liquid is the hydrometer, which measures the volume displaced by an object of known mass. A common laboratory device for measuring fluid density is apycnometer; a related device for measuring the absolute density of a solid is a gas pycnometer. Another instrument used to determine the density of a liquidor a gas is the digital density meter - based on the oscillating U-tube principle.

Why does hydrometer is used to find the density of dock?

It is not used for this.A hydrometer is an instrument used to measure the specific gravity (or relative density) of liquids, NOT rock.To measure the density of a rock you weigh a piece of it in air, then measure the volume of water it displaces in a measuring jug.Density = mass/volume.
