A single bond is a head-on overlapping, and it is also know as sigma bond. Whereas a double bond has one sigma and one pi bond. pi bond has sidways overlapping. A double bond is stronger than a single bond.However compounds with double bond are more reactive because it is easier to break pi bonds.
