A person being on SSD or other disability benefits does not mean they cannot be pursued for collection of debt owed, including being sued by the creditor. SSD, RRB and private disability benefits are exempt from creditor garnishment. Neither can a bank account containing such benefits be levied, but it is extremely important that exempt funds are not commingled with non exempt funds to prevent the "freezing" of an account held by the debtor. Although SSD is not subject to judgment execution, the debtor may have other assets (such as real property) that can be attached by a judgment creditor if a lawsuit is pursued.
