It depends on the time of day, and year, and solar cycle. Its never the same exact point. In a total eclipse, the photosphere (and everything inside that, such as the core) is blocked by the moon but the corona is visible.

That is called a solar eclipse. The sun is much bigger than the moon, however the moon is much closer - the difference in sizes and distances happens to be almost exactly the same ratio. If the moon aligns well enough between the sun and Earth, it is big enough to block the light, and allows us to see the sun's corona.
