On August 25, 2008 Surinam Airways had a commercial flight that landed in Oranjestad, Aruba and then flew on to Miami, Florida. This was the first time in about 16 years that Surinam Airways was allowed to operate air flights into the United States of America. Surinam Airways now regularly picks up passengers in Oranjestad to disembark in Miami and then picks up passengers in Miami for Aruba.
