The Neolithic Revolution, which begun 11,000 years ago, was when societies changed from hunting and gathering, to settled agriculture societies. With this revolution or major change, food supplies became more reliable as people domesticated animals and plant seed. Social and political systems developed in the settled societies.

The causes may have been changes in climate, or population, or the accidental discovery that some areas could grow food perennially if managed and tended. It may have been the need for a weaker tribe to avoid conflicts with stronger competitors.

The effect was the birth of civilization: the development of new materials, tools, and social orders. Eventually the need for ever-more-complex inventions, processes, and technologies to make permanent habitations workable.

The neolithic was the beginning of an end to the hunting and gathering process. People settled down in small colonies. This created a need for food, security, storage units, and some type of government.
