Sometime between 2000 and 2001. then billy corgan(lead singer songwriter and guitar) got some random musicians and started agian as the smashing pumpkins in 2007 with there album release Zietgiest.

∙ 8y agoNecessarily, they never got back together if your a true pumpkins fan. This is because only 50% of the former band members came for the reunion, which was Billy Corgan and Jimmy Chamberlain. But this "reunion" happened in 2007 along with the release of "Zeitgeist". And as of March 2009 they basically broke up since there is only one former band member in the band, this is Billy Corgan. ∙ 13y agoThey broke up around 2000 after the release of the "Machina" album. They "reformed" in the last few years and released the album "Zeitgeist", although Billy Corgan and Jimmy Chamberlain were the only original members left.
They are still going now, but Jimmy has since quit, leaving Billy the only original pumpkin left.
