Freedom

Equality

Full employment

Rational taxation

Fair trade

This is opposed to the modern Republican Party. That party was hijacked by Grover Norquist, the Project for a New American Century, and Pat Robertson...so what the modern Republican favors is a theocracy with no taxes that's always at war.

This person is the prime example of a Dem/liberal.....Living in a dream world. Just in my opinion... Dems want Government control. Lets look at what this high-speed individual wrote:

Full employment??? Does our government control the job market?? Liberals are the reason wars are lost and society is lazy.

You are aware conservative doctrine says the economy will collapse if the unemployment rate falls below five percent, correct? The theory they have is, if someone decides to open a new business he needs employees, so he will take them from the ranks of the unemployed. Liberal doctrine on the same thing understands that anyone starting a new business is going to steal employees from other businesses.

The problem with this doctrine (besides the fact that no new business takes its initial worker inventory from the ranks of the unemployed) is that in the Clinton administration the unemployment rate fell into the mid-fours and the economy didn't collapse.

The true dream world is inhabited by conservatives. Take regulation. A conservative will tell you the only good regulation is NO regulation; the business world can take care of itself. Liberals note that any regulated business that is subsequently deregulated either collapses under its own weight (see the airline industry--right now, the ONLY way an airline can be profitable is if it hedges fuel) or, like the subprime mortgage industry, it destroys the world.

Many people support the Democratic Party and it is very diverse. However,

studies have shown that a disproportionate percentage of blacks, Hispanics, lower income people , people in larger cities and people with not much education support the Democratic Party.

On the contrary, I think the Democratic Party gets donations and support from highly educated people of all races and ethnic backgrounds. According to research, professionals, those who have a college education and whose work revolves around the conceptualization of ideas, have supported the Democratic Party by a majority since 2000. Academics, intellectuals, and the highly-educated overall constitute an important part of the Democratic voter base, therefore people who vote for the Democrats and support them tend to have high educations as well as be from many different religions, races, and backgrounds.

The Democratic Party tends to attract citizens of lower socio-economic brackets. Also, those who live in cities choose the Democratic Party, due to the Party's acceptance and promotion of many social programs. Based on voting Demographics from the recent presidential election, most Republican voters can be found in the South and Midwest. So, anywhere along the coasts or Great Lakes area tends to have plenty of Democratic voters.

As a generalization, Unions, people with lower incomes, minorities, environmentalists, the college-educated, and the Net-roots (Online Progressives) are generally considered the "base" of the Democratic Party. Of course, many of these categories overlap with others, so some of these people support other political parties.

Why are new democratic governments often unstable?

Largely because political institutions depend on the trust and support of the people who live under them (legitimacy). Democracies often emerge after troubling circumstances (e.g.) war) and have to work hard to gain the support of the people who are used to living under different types of political arrangements.

What types of people support Republicans and what types support Democrats?

That is a good question, and a lot depends on how you ask it. This is because in the United States the two national parties are actually 50 state parties and territories like Puerto Rico. And each state has its own rules as to who is a member of a party. In Texas, for example, you declare your party membership by voting in that party's primary election. If you vote in the Republican primary, you are a Republican, and if you vote in the Democratic Party's primary you are a Democrat. And you can change when the next primary rolls around. But other states, such as New York, Nevada and California, require you to register as a Democrat or as a Republican or other party, including the Green Party, the Libertarian Party or even register as non-partisan (an independent.) They do have hard statistics on who considers themselves as a Democrat or a Republican, but also have good evidence that folks go out and vote whatever way they wish. In the 2008 Presidential Election you could say that Barack Obama, the Democrat, received 69,456,897 votes and John McCain, the Republican received 59,934,814 votes. But this does not tell the tale effectively either. A lot of American voters consider themselves as independents. That is, the are not a member of either party. Or any party. My own estimation is that about 39% of voters consider themselves Democrats and about 35% of people consider themselves Republicans. The rest (26%) are independents. How do I come to these numbers? By watching polls on politicians who are 'obviously guilty' of some naughty act. Those are the numbers that usually turn up as supporters of the 'obviously guilty' one. The true believers. And that, I think, is the best way of telling how many people support which side.
