Although ruled by Rome, the countries of the eastern Mediterranean were steeped in Greek culture and spoke the Greek language. The New Testament was written in Greek and reflects the Greek heritage. Some Platonic concepts, such as the Logos ('Word') found their way into Christian doctrine. From the time of Emperor Constantine, Rome began to play a more important role in shaping Christianity, but Greek influence continued to have a major effect for centuries to come.
It was labouring and trade work rather than technology -winning and shaping timber, mining and shaping rock, winning clay and shaping tiles. Plus lifting and setting the components and making and aoolying paint.
