Nuclear Disaster
Infamous, not famous! It was an accident in an old nuclear power plant on 26 April 1986. Workers and people living around the area were exposed to massive amounts of radiation. Thirty people died immediately and about half a million developed cancers in the years since.

Chernobyl is famous for the worst nuclear power plant accident in history.
Chernobyl is neither a capital, nor a country. Chernobyl was a city close to the Chernobyl nuclear power station. The power station actually sat close to Prypiat Ukraine, where many of the workers lived. It was close to the Ukrainian and Belarus border. It became famous for having a large nuclear disaster on 26 April 1986. The city is now abandoned and is a ghost city inside the Chernobyl exclusion zone.

The most famous Nuclear disaster in Europe was the 1986 Chernobyl Nuclear Power Plant Disaster in Ukraine. Nuclear radiation from an explosion in one of the four reactors leaked into the surrounding area and the near by city of Pripyat. Over 50,000 people had to be evacuated. 50 workers and firemen were killed and thousands of others died of cancers related with being exposed to the radiation from the disaster. Chernobyl and Pripyat are still heavily radioactive today and can still cause nuclear mutations if exposed for to long.
