The "Fire Triangle" indicates that a fire requires fuel, oxygen and heat to continue burning. Removing any one side will cause the reaction to cease.

You can:

  • Remove the source fuel (turn off gas or oil supply to the fire)
  • Smother the fire with barriers such as foams, sand (or other inert material)
  • Cool it with water or carbon dioxide
  • Tie up the reactants with compounds that bind with the oxygen more rapidly (Halon)
  • Replace the oxygen in the air with carbon dioxide or other inert gas (Halon)

I have one suggestion to all that if you have any damaged fire extinguisher then you can sell it on Halon.Us.

    Thank you all.

If the fire is large, get help. If it's small (i.e. oven fire, toaster fire, small mistake) use a fire extinguisher ASAP or call for help. If SOMEONE is on fire, cover them in a blanket or something to prevent fire from getting any more oxygen to smother the fire. Otherwise, quickly pat the person's fire (if it's small) repeatedly to fan away oxygen and extinguish the fire. Fires involving gas and other chemical substances are too dangerous to deal with on your own, so always get help.

you extinguish fires a few different ways, by removing the material being burned, cooling it with water (from a fire engine or "water can"), taking away oxygen from it with a CO2 extinguisher or AFFF foam, or using chemicals to stop the chemical reaction that is taking place (with a dry chemical fire extinguisher).

A fire can be extinguished by blocking the source of Oxygen as Oxygen is required for burning.

But I think the gas is Carbon Dioxide.

It depends on what kind of fire it is. You wouldn't want to use water, which is used on a wood fire, to put out an electrical fire because you'd be electrocuted.

Yes, it can.

Contrary to popular belief and the quote "You can't fight fire with fire", you CAN fight fire with fire.
