If you know for sure that you are pregnant, it is probably not going to be your period, although some women have experienced a "first" period then learns a couple of weeks later that they really are pregnant. It is possible that it could be implantation bleeding caused by the fertilized egg to attach itself to the uterine wall. Or it could be a cervical change that can cause vaginal bleeding. Vaginal bleeding can also be a symptom of ectopic (tubal) pregnancy. Another cause for bleeding during pregnancy is a miscarriage although the first two reasons for bleeding are more common, it is still a good idea to contact your doctor as soon as you can.

I had a negative test 3 days before period was due, then two days of spotting exactly like you describe on a Thursday and a Friday...on Saturday I got a positive test. I spotted through my entire first trimester and had a wonderful pregnancy. That baby just turned 2!! Wishing you luck!

I am in the exact same situation. I hope the following info will be useful: About 25% of all pregnant women have some bleeding or spotting in the first three months of pregnancy. Many women mistake this bleeding for their period and underestimate their due dates by a month or so. The question to ask yourself is "Is this bleeding exactly the same as my usual period? Is it at the same time of the month, the same number of days? am I using the same number of pads or tampons?" Again, the more regular your periods are, the more reliable a sign of pregnancy any noticed changes will be. Having said this, the bleeding you experienced does not necessarily mean you are not pregnant. At this stage, if you're about 2 weeks after ovulation, you can do a home pregnancy test and levels of HCG should show up.

Spotting is a very light flow. It is something that may barely, or not even, fill a pantyliner throughout the course of the day (or couple of days for that matter). Spotting doesn't really include the loss of any tissue (shedding of the lining of the uterus). Usually it is a very light pink color, but it could also be bright red (new oxygenated blood) or more brown (old, deoxygenated blood). During pregnancy, any bleeding is referred to as vaginal bleeding. It has nothing to do with a period as pregnancy and periods cannot co-exist. Vaginal bleeding is caused by something other than your period and in this case it sounds more like implantation bleeding (if it is early in the pregnancy). However, any vaginal bleeding should be reported to your doctor as well as any detail you can provide regarding flow, color, any odors, frequency, and any other concurrent symptoms. Your doctor will want to evaluate it to determine a cause (though it is often difficult to determine an exact cause) and be sure that it is not something serious; although it is usually a very normal occurrence and means no harm.

If you feel it's normal I think your husband is wishful thinking. I doubt if you are pregnant.

I have had spotting with all three of my pregnancies and the doctor always told me that if the spotting is bright red you need to call your doctor and be checked out. It may be fine but often they prescribe bedrest until it stops or do some testing to make sure the baby is still thriving. A call to your doctor would be wise and give you some peace of mind.

Spotting is exactly what it sounds like... it is literally (instead of bleeding in a flow or constant like most women) it is getting a little blood here or there... it could be spotting a little each day or stretched out over a long period of time... but instead of getting your normal period in a normal flow and it lasting your normal time it just does whatever it wants basically... Spotting is blood... so if you see anything resembling blood and you are pregnant you should talk to you healthcare provider right away... it could be harmless as was my best friend's ... she spotted throughout her first 3 months and although we worried she was fine and her Dr. kept telling us she was... As a matter of fact she is due soon and has an induction date of July 27th... so she has carried to term with no complications and the baby is fine .... On the flip side it could also be signs of a non-viable pregnancy, an ectopic pregnancy, or even miscarriage...
