A yellow dwarf is just a star, like all the other billion stars.
What makes it yellow, is it's temperature. A hotter star will appear white to blue, whereas a cooler star will appear orange to red.
Our Sun, a yellow dwarf comprises about 73% hydrogen and 25% helium. Because it is a population I star, it also contains many heavier elements, which accounts for its size and longevity.
