What we consider to be the passage of time- 1 minute, 1 hour, 1 day, is all relative to how fast the Earth is rotating. Now as the Earth is rotating, it also is at a very specific tilt. The Earth is at a tilt of 23.5 degrees, meaning when it is rotating around the sun it isn't straight "up and down". The tilting is important because it gives us seasonal variation. The tilt is what causes the seasons to change. Which is important to humans, because it dictates climate in certain areas, growing seasons in agriculture, climate for survival for many animal species, and so on.
