If you heat a type of plastic and bend it and let it cool down bent it will stay bent, but if you hold the bent plastic on or over the heat it will bend back so it's straight again

Memory cards have a little plastic case that can protect and store them. If you remember when gameboy first came out they had a little plastic case for the games well they do the same thing with these tiny memory cards.

I would suggest looking for a mattress protector that does not have a plastic surface. Memory foams tend to collect heat and you wouldn't' want the plastic to trap the heat. Look for a breathable mattress cover.
If certain plastics (take for instance PTFE) is subjected to stresses below its yield point then it may be subjected to permanent deformation. This deformation will induce certain strains through out the material. If the plastic is heated up, these strains tend to relax which allows the plastic to return to its original shape. This is often refered to as "plastic memory".
