What does it mean when the plasma membrane is selectively permeable?
it only allows specific things to enter.

The plasma membrane is selectively permeable because it needs to allow certain things in and certain things out. The plasma membrane is a selectively permeable membrane… as it allows the entry and exit of some selected substances only.
It means that the plasma membrane lets water through it.. A plasma membrane is actually semipermeable, which means that certain molecules can pass through it by diffusion. Ot…her molecules will be too big to pass through the membrane.
Because it can pass some liquids, minerals and water through it.
The Plasma Membrane is a selectively permeable membrane as it only allows entry and exit of some selected molecules into and out of the Cells. It also prevents movement of …some other materials, therefore the plasma membrane is called a selectively permeable membrane.
It permits to enter different important ingredients and different types of salts to cytoplasm which is important to cell growth, function and metabolism but don't allow to tra…nsmit any unnecessary and harmful constituents such as unnecessary amino acid, not to use in protein synthesis then, different types of harmful drug which we take as medicine. So we can see it allow only selected item. That's why it is called as Selectively Permeable Membrane.
What does selective permeability mean what is responsible for the selective permeability of the plasma or cell membrane?
Permeability- being able to be pierced/passed through.
Let trans-membrane transport of molecules be either passive, or facilitated, or active: the plasma [bi-lipid layer] membrane has the power to exclude molecules It selects from… passage through the Membrane into the Cell's interior.
Yes, it is selective about the compounds and molecules it allows across the membrane.
Yes... I'm pretty sure it is
When a cell's membrane is permeable, it means that only certain proteins and other molecules can go in and out of the porous membrane, through protein pumps and other pathways…. Some molecules stay inside the cell, while others float outside. Starches, for example, are large molecules that cannot pass through the membrane.
A cell membrane that allows certain particles through but not others e.g. it may let potassium ions through but not have large enough holes to let water molecules through.
because depending on what is in the cell if it needs something like water it will let it in or if it did not need water it would not let it in
Differentially. This means, in this context, that the cell membrane issemipermeable; letting some substances through and not letting someother substances through the membrane….
The membrane only allows certain chemicals through.
The Plasma Membrane of a Cell is used to separate the outside ofthe cell to the inside. The membrane is selectively permeable sothat important nutrients and other substances c…an enter the cellbut things like toxins can not
It is because of the make up of the membrane. Most of the bilayeris hydrophobic; therefore water or water-soluble molecules do notpass through easily. Other do pass through ea…sily. A cell controls what moves through the membrane by means ofmembrane proteins embedded in the phospholipid bilayer.
