A priest, in general terms, is needed to explain God's word to the worshippers and to talk to God for the worshippers, as in the rite of 'Confession'.

The theory is that the worshippers are too ignorant, uneducated, unwilling, and unholy to obtain God's word, including His bible passages, without the intervention of a priest.

Of course, the priest gets power, control over the worshippers' lives, and access to worldly things. (through the ages, I mean)

What is the pension of a Catholic priest?

Every Catholic priest in the world is ordained by a particular Bishop. When he is ordained, he makes solemn promises of obedience to that Bishop and his successors. Thus he is paid either by that Bishop if he is a secular priest, or he is a religious priest, works for an Order (like the Jesuits or Benedictines) and does not receive a salary. If he is a diocesian priest, the diocese is responsible for him in his retirement, if he is a religious priest, then his Order will take care of him in his retirement. Thus every priest is going to have a different "pension" from nothing, if he belongs to a religious Order and has taken a vow of poverty, to whatever his Bishop thinks he needs to live.

Who inherits a Catholic priest's property?

If the priest was a member of a religious order, such as the Franciscans, who take a vow of poverty so own nothing themselves, what few things they might have - clothing, books, rosary, etc. will go to the order when they pass on. A diocesan priest makes no such vow and his property is distributed as specified in his will.
