A newborn koala embryo looks nothing like its parent. It is the size of a bean, pink, blind and hairless. The joey weighs about 0.5 grams and is about 2 cm long.

A baby platypus is simply called a platypus. There is no officially recognised term, although "platypup" is, rightly or wrongly, becoming more common.

The term 'puggle' is often used for a baby platypus just as it is for a young echidna. It is not technically correct to use it, as there is no official name for a baby platypus. "Puggle" has reportedly been used in Australian bush lore as a name for baby echidnas for many decades. There have been claims that it developed as a name for baby echidnas, as they resembled "Puggles", an American soft-toy character. Perhaps because echidnas and platypuses are both monotremes, the term began to be applied to young platypus as well.

A baby platypus is about the size of a bean when it is first hatched. It is blind and completely hairless, but still has the rudimentary "platypus" shape.
