At five weeks, your baby is about the size of a sesame seed. This week your baby will already be working hard and it will developing the placenta and amniotic sac. It will also develop a heart beat this week and gain circulation of blood through the body. The fetus moves, kicks, swallows and can hear your voice. The skin is pink and transparent. Umbilical cord continues to grow and thicken to carry enough nourishment from the mother to the fetus - but it also can pass along hazards like tobacco, alcohol and other drugs. The placenta is now fully formed. By the end of the fourth month, the fetus is 6 to 7 inches long and weighs about 5 ounces.
It's still a embryo and will not be a fetus for several weeks yet. The embryo is about 0.014-0.04 inches in length. It's in about the second week of development and contains of about 150 cells. The embryo is being nourished by secretions from the uterine lining.
