A bank teller accepts deposits, cashes checks, makes withdrawals, issues negotiable instruments (cashier's checks, money orders and traveler's checks) sells and redeems savings bonds and balances the ATM.

If the branch has a small number of employees, the bank tellers may also open new accounts and talk to customers about loans. A bank teller is expected to provide good customer service and will be responsible for balancing their cash drawer.

A banker is a salesperson. They help you with your initial banking requests (for example: open a savings/ cheque account, process your loan application). Then they look for sales opportunities to bring money into the bank (either by selling you debt, or encouraging you to deposit tens of thousands of dollars into a fixed deposit). In between this, they are trained to answer any questions you have about your banking needs. You are just another customer to the bank, they don't really care. So long as you bank with them and avoid other financial institutions they are happy. Every complaint you have, you are most likely wrong and staff get pissed off that you call them and complain as if they themselves are the bank. Bankers have no control over the systems, they can make suggestions, but it takes a while to get a response. If a staff member goes out of their way for a customer, then they sacrifice commitments to other customers (who will complain). Solution: -Be friendly to bankers, they are human like you. -Listen to what they have to say, as they do know alot more than you do about banking. -When a banker tells you that you should have a certain product, always read the brochure first. Tell them you need time alone to consider the benefits. Then call their contact centre anonomously to ask any questions you have, as if you already have the product. When satisfied consult your banker. If not; then never trust that banker again and request a new banker who does not try to sell you a product you don't need. By the way, never ask a banker wether their product is the best, instead look up the other banks to compare what they offer.

A full time bank teller will work 40 hours a week. Typically banks are open from 9-5 Monday through Thursday and 9-6 on Friday with shortened hours on Saturday, for example 10-2. It depends on the bank. Branches that are in grocery stores have extended hours during the week and on Saturday. Some in-store branches are open on Sunday's.

Bank tellers typically come in 15 minutes before their shift begins to set up their cash drawer and get organized for their day and then it takes 15 minutes or so to balance their cash drawer. Your supervisor will schedule you so you don't work longer than a 40 hour week so they wont be obligated to pay you overtime.
