Lady Macbeth is a character in William Shakespeare play Macbeth. While based on the real-life Queen Gruoch of Scotland, both her character and the play's events are tied very weakly to actual history.

Although Lady Macbeth's name is never referenced in the play, the name of the historical Lady Macbeth was Gruoch (pronounced Grooch). This is also mentioned in the Cambridge School Shakespeare edition of Macbeth (ed. Gibson) Source: http://www.funtrivia.com/askft/Question53279.html

The historical Macbeth's real name was MacBethad mac Findlaich [c. 1014-August 15, 1057]. Another historical name for him was Ri Deircc, as the 'Red King' in reference to his red hair. Still other historical names for him was King of Alba and King of the Scots, in reference to his succession to the throne of Scotland. Yet other historical names for him were King of Moray and King of Fortriu, in reference to his job descriptions in northern Scotland before becoming ruler over all the Scots. Other names for Macbeth were found within the Shakespearean play. In that play, Macbeth began as Thane of Glamis and General to King Duncan I [d. August 14, 1040]. In quick succession, he took on the additional noble title of Thane of Cawdor and then the royal title of King of Scotland.

She is generally called Lady Macbeth. The wife of the real historical King Macbeth's first name was Gruoch, but if Shakespeare even knew that, he wisely left it out of his play.
