Bullying is a learned behavior. It is NOT a mental illness. The person doing the bullying has gotten the mistaken idea that bullying another person is an appropriate way to handle differences of opinion. They have learned how to bully by watching another member of their family do it and get away with it. It vould be a father or mother mother or brother or some other member of their family. It is an imbalance of power between two people. Theren are many different reasons why someone will bully. But it IS something that they have leaned how to do.

Is bullying a mental illness? Yes and no. It is a state of mind ,but the actions do reflect off of mental illness. A victim is just a person who was at the wrong place at the wrong time for someone else. Bystanders can be onlookers but if the bystander is assertive and tries to defend the victim the bystander might become a victim too. Bully can be learned from past experiences, parents, friends. Bullying among females is just backstabbing, spreading rumors ,humiliation or exclusion. Bullying for guys is agressive. There is foul language and some one ends up being hurt .A victim is passive, a bully agressive, a bystander assertive.

But bullying is not a big thing .I'm in high school and I have not seen it .I heard that someone got picked on b/c of their religion but other than that it's just gossip. In movies they make it seem all serious, but in reality it is actually not and the bully just ends up looking stupid.

It seems to be both. Bullying can be a growing problem on some occasions depending on how bad the bully is. If it's a boy bullying a girl then 80% of the time they are bullying you because they like you. But that said this isn't always the case...
