To Own a hamster you need things such as
1. Water bottle (You need to fill the bottle with water everyday, you also need a hanger for the bottle)
2. Glass Cage with WELL-VENTILATED TOP, or a wire cage with a SOLID floor and spacing no more than 1/2 inch.
3. Food Dish (You need to buy food also, use Ecotrition or Supreme Hazel)
4. Bag of bedding (DO NOT USE PINE PRODUCTS. Change once a week as needed)
5. Wheel 8in or larger (smaller models cause back problems and pain for Syrians) WITHOUT WIRE - use Comfort Wheel or Silent Spinner. Hamsters can get their little feet caught between wires and seriously injure themselves.
6) House - wooden or plastic (remove if the hamster chews the plastic) home for it to sleep in
7) Small fruit tree branches for chewing, available at most pet stores (hamster teeth never stop growing, so they need something to gnaw at)
8) Potty - Little John Hi-Corner potties are only a few dollars and work perfectly.
*Give hamsters fresh food as well - they should have a small amount of vegetables daily (make sure you look up the list of foods they're allergic to first, though) and you can give them a treat in the form of fruit and grain snacks once every 2 weeks or so.
Also, use toilet paper rolls or hamster accessories to give your hamster things to do other than run on their wheel - they love climbing and exploring!
This is what I have found that works the best for caring for my little hammy.

A hamster cage needs a house filled with bedding for the hamster to sleep in. It needs to be lined with sawdust. A food ball. A water bottle. A wheel to exersise in and maybe some aditional toys to keep the hamster entertained.
first of all you need a cage. hamsters need exersize so put a wheel in the cage.hamsters love to eat so put a bowl of food in there. just put the bedding down ( it can either be paper, wood stuff, exctra... that's all you need
First you need a cage to put your hamster in. If its in a box don't leave it in there too long or it will die. Next get some type of hay so you hamster is nice and cozy. Then get your hamster cool stuff/toys and fill in the food and water. If your hamster doesn't eat or drink its probably sleeping, because some hamsters are active at night. Last but not least play with your new buddy.
If you can hold your hamster that's good but don't harm it. (Like pushing the hamster wheel/ball hard) Since its a dwarf hamster gently pet it because there dwarf/small hamsters.
If you can hold it and play with it, that's good. But if its shy and jumps off your hand you got to make it feel comfortable. Well I have a robo-dwarf hamster and that's one of the most cutest, but shyest and fastest hamster. At first it drives me nuts, because its so loud and I was worried it will run away. Then I tried to hold it but he jumps of and runs away.
So this is what I did. (if your hamster runs away too much and its fast, show it that your taming it. Remove the hamster wheel (if it uses it WAY TOO MUCH) so it won't get too fast and also the food bowl to feed by hand. And if it runs away while you feed it, don't get startled or anything, its just shy keep trying and when it grabs it keep on doing it. Don't move around to much because it will get startled. When days past pet it while it eat. Do it gentle because there small body's can get hurt.)
NEVER GRAB YOUR HAMSTER LET IT CRAWL ON TOP OF YOUR HAND. BY PUTTING FOOD ON YOUR HAND. The holes on toilet paper are very useful on dwarf hamsters because there small enough to fit in it. Be patient for it to crawl through the hole with your hand on the other side. (it takes time because it may not like your hand)
If your hamster bites you its because your hand smells like food so try not to get startled because your hamster might get startled too. If your hamster squeaks that's bad because its scared. Every time you touch your hamster or something that the hamster touched wash your hands.
If you want to clean your hamster because it smells, clean the cage because it could be the cage that smells. But if it really smells get a wet towel and GENTLY rub. Then get baby shampoo and rub with clean a clean finger. If i were you, don't do the face. Don't take your hamster out on hot or cold days. If its hot my hamster sweats and starts to smell. It at least needs to be 70-80 degree's.
Most of this stuff needs to take time. I hope you read this and remember stay still if your hamster dislikes you even the things you hold.
The essential things for a hamster are...
You will need: Bedding (Aspen wood shavings, Carefresh, ect)
Cage (store bought, homemade, old fish tank, ect)
Food (Hamster Diet, Carefresh, ect)
Bottle (hamster bottle, Bowl)
Toys (Chews, wheel, loofa, tubes, ect)
Step 1. get your cage and fill it with your bedding, spread it evenly (if your cage is one level, put extra in one corner.)
step 2. Add toys (if you are using chews, put 1-3 in per cage *if your hamster is not using your chews, add a small portion of peanut butter or honey on it.*)
step 3. Put food in a plastic bowl (small) or a ceramic bowl (small) put in a corner. for water you can get a hamster water bottle and lock it in place (you can use Duct Tape for a limited time only.) if you don't have a hamster water bottle then you can use a bowl (bowls aren't good because your hamster can get wet) put that next to the food dish if so.
Good luck! *NOTE: give your hamster a few days alone. Don't touch it.

Yes.
yes
Well, they need a hamster wheel for excercising with, food, which I recommend to be put in a bowl, a plastic hamster water bottle for the hamster to drink from, play toys for the hamster to play with and lastly, you need to have wood chips on the ground, so that the hamster's feet will be protected.
Erm, I haven't seen a hamster swim exactly... But if your hamster can swim, you would need to supervise your hamster in case he/she drowns or fatigue.
No, unless the hamster has rabies. if the hamster is a household pet, then no. Hamsters rarely bite, anyway.
You don't need one, but it is best to have one. Hamster balls enable hamsters to get a session of good excersise. Although most hamster cages have wheels which provides excersise hamster balls enable you to controll the amount of excersise a hamster gets.
Any hamster is easy to hold but is depends on how you treat it but if you want to hold a hamster you need to check its water and food and of course the hamster SO ALWAYS REMEMBER TO TREAT YOUR HAMSTER WITH RESPECT!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Just how reliable does a hamster toy need to be?
Your hamster doesn't need to go in the ball everyday , If your hamster has an exercise wheel then you can put them in the ball when you want to. I have 2 hamsters and they both have hamster balls and i only put them in it 3 times a week at the most :)
I had this exact problem with one of my hamsters. This is serious and can cause the hamster a lot of pain. It is likely the hamster will need to be put down. You need to take the hamster to the vets as soon as possible, as it is not fair to keep it alive under such circumstances.
