As a teacher you do lots of things. Here is a few
plan lessons
do lesson plans and turn in to the administration each week
collect all supplies needed for each lesson
stand yard duty
have parent conferences
fill out various forms for the school/state
take attendance
keep accurate records
keep grade book
do report cards
collect student work/files
attend teacher meetings
go to in services ( even on vacations)
attend school board meetings
help select textbooks
decorate classroom
testing prep and attend in services on giving state testing
attend meetings required for students needing special services
be a bit of mother, nurse, counselor
attend Back to School Night and Open House
Coach sports, spelling bee, student council activities
serve on parent/teacher committees
fill out student forms for end of each year
close out classroom at the end of each year
meet state and district standards in each subject
follow the state framework for each subject
know at least 8 different subjects for a K-8 teacher
know each child and how each child is different
solve problems that come up in the school day
stop student bullies/fights
prepare any work or lessons for a sub
get a 30 minute lunch and if you are lucky a 10 minute bathroom break in the school day
I may have left one or two out of my list, but this is what is required as a teacher and I what I have done for 27 years.
