Me personally, I like to fight. But I do avoid them whenever possible. Some ways I avoid fights is turn it into a joke like when someone screams at you,"YOU WANNA GO!?" My favorite go-to joke is "Yes, lets go to Walmart, I ran out of milk this morning." Another way of avoiding a fight is to walk away with your head held high. Yes, you'll be called a coward and some other names but those are hooligans. To the smart and wise people, you have won when you walk away high and mighty. When all else fails, the first one who falls to the ground loses.

Haters of ham and gravy, Join the Hebrew navy, Fight! Fight! Fight for Palestine! (chorus) Grab that helmet! Squeeze it tight! Synagogue! Synagogue! Fight! Fight! Fight!
I think it means, that when we fight someone (not necessarily physically - as a physical fight inevitably is a punishment) do we fight to punish them for what they do or have done, or do we fight to change the effect or the manner of their action. As in do we fight to teach someone a lesson, or do we fight to show them a better way.
