It depends upon how much you received, your age, your size, your general state of health, and any side effects you may be having.

If you have symptoms of allergy or any atypical effects, get immediate medical care. Otherwise, contact your primary health care professional to confirm that you received too much (some dosage amounts may vary depending on the type or brand of the vaccine) and for treatment if needed.

As long as it is under 103 F., drink plenty of fluids and notify your doctor if the fever is not gone in 24 hours. Fever is one of the immune system's responses to invading micro-organisms, and having a fever is an indication that your immune system is healthy and doing as it should to react to the invader by causing a fever to try to kill some of the viruses. This reaction is required for immunity to be created from the introduction of the vaccine and is a good thing as long as it does not take too long to go away. However, it could also be a coincidental symptom and unrelated to the vaccination, so if you develop other symptoms along with the fever, it could be that something else is brewing.

Get the person to a doctor immediately. Tell the doctor his/her symptoms, and the date and time it happened.

Signs of an allergic reaction are difficulty breathing, wheezing, hives, paleness, fast heart-beat, and dizziness.

call your doctors office and report your symptoms to the desk nurse and he or she will help you

Take some medicine such as ibuprofen so the pain isn't too bad later on. It is also recommended that you move arm you got the flu shot in around.

Can you get H1N1 flu shot if you have a cold?

Most people can, because most people don't get a fever from a cold. If you have a fever, you should not get a flu shot, but if you only have a mild cold without fever, it is okay to go ahead and get the vaccination, if you are an otherwise healthy person.

Should you get the flu shot if you have mono?

Typically, if you have a fever or any other sign of infection you should not get the flu shot. Wait until you are fever free [without using fever reducing medication]. Ask the doctor treating the mono what he recommends about the flu. I have had mono for the last three months, I was just starting to recover when my doctor gave me a flu shot. By the next day I was so sick I had to be driven home from work, still sick. Don't do it!

Why is it recommended not to get a flu shot when there's a high fever?

the shot is to prevent infection not to treat it When you're sick with a fever, you may not mount as good of an immune response to the vaccine.

Can you get the flu shot when wheezing?

It is usually good to not bombard your immune system with too many things at once, so it is commonly recommended that you not get a flu shot if you have a fever. The fever indicates that your body is already fighting something, and then it is best to wait until your are fever-free to get the vaccination. If you don't have a fever, then you can probably get the vaccination, but tell the clinician who will be giving you the vaccination about your breathing symptoms and they will decide if there is any reason not to give it to you. If your wheezing is severe or you have not yet had it evaluated by a physician, it might be better to also wait to get the flu shot until after you have consulted with a health care professional about the wheeze and then to also ask about getting a flu shot.

Can you get the flu shot if you feel a little under the weather?

As long as you do not have or have not recently had a high fever or other indication of a severe infection of a bacteria or virus, you can get a flu shot. They will ask you about this before giving you the immunization and will not give it if you should not have it.

Can a fever from a flu shot be contagious?

If you had a flu vaccination and soon or immediately after getting it you had a mild fever and other mild flu symptoms caused by the vaccination, then the fever you have would not be due to contagious disease but, rather, due to the immune response that the vaccination caused in your body (which is how the shots give us immunity) and it would not be from infectious disease or the flu. These mild reactions to the flu shot usually only cause a low grade fever under 100F and last only a few days. However, there is also always the possibility that you actually have the flu, since it takes about two weeks to develop full immunity from an inoculation and if you caught the flu before the vaccination, it could be what is causing a fever. Use careful hand washing technique to protect others in case it is actually the flu and until you have gone 24 hours without a fever.

Why can't you get a flu shot when you have a cold?

For the best results, it is recommended that you not be ill when taking the flu shot. Take care of the cold, recover, and then get the shot. If you are noticeably ill, they may not give it to you.

Can you give a horse with the flu a flu shot?

In general, no - most veterinarians will not vaccinate a horse with a fever because the immune system typically doesn't react as well to the vaccine. It is usually better to wait until a few days after the fever breaks and the infection is resolved before giving vaccines.
