Puppy Raiser

A Puppy Raiser is a person who takes a potential service dog candidate for the first 6-12 months of the dogs life/training and exposes them to a number of environments while training some basic commands. Socialization is very important for service dogs, as they need to be familiar with a number of ethnic groups, dogs, cats, animals, trucks, motorcycles, diesel engines, etc.

A service dog is not allowed to bark, growl or show any aggression. Most pets have something that they just don't like, i.e. when a diesel delivery truck goes by and they bark or when a foreign person walks by. These behaviours are not acceptable as Service Dogs will be exposed to many public places.

How do get to become a person that takes a guide dog around places and collect money?

Guide dogs are not loaned out for fund raising because they are extremely valuable (approximately $40,000) and require very specific handling to maintain their training. They accompany trainers from the school that trains them. Puppy raisers of candidates hoping to attend formal training as guide dogs may also accompany their charges on public outings on approval of the guide dog school. For information on becoming a puppy raiser or guide dog trainer, check these questions on WikiAnswers:"How do you become a guide dog puppy raiser?""How do you become a guide dog trainer?"It would be simpler to arrange to borrow a collection box from the school in order to help them raise funds.you go to the council and they will let you as long as you give the money that you collect to the guide dog trainers and not just keep it all for your self!

Can you take a puppy into a hotel?

How long does it take to become a pet trainer?

Heres how it works for guide dogs. When a puppy is born and can be taken away from its mother it goes to a guide dog center. It will meet its puppy raiser. The puppy raiser raises the dog until its one and a half.A walk will be great so the puppy raiser will get to know the dog. I should mention that only German shepareds labs and retrevers can be a guide dog.any way when the puppy is almost two it will have to say goodbye.I know its hard saying bye to a friend. That's one of the hard parts saying bye. Then it goes to a guide dog trainer. The trainer has to be strict. When a dog does something right the trainer says good girl or gives the dog a treat. Then when its almost done they learn to cross a street. That's very important to learn. Then when the dogs trained it will get a owner. A guide dog retires at ten but still will have a owner.
