Xylems and phloems look alike due to their specialized structure and function. Xylem in the vascular plants consists of similar tissues of trachieds, vessels and xylem parenchyma and perform the same function of transportation of water and minerals, hence it looks similar in all such plants. Likewise phloem consists of sieve tubes, companion cells and phloem parenchyma and perform the same function of conduction of food material to different plant parts.
