Taken from the book: The two chess pieced on the cover of Breaking Dawn both represent Bella. They show her moving from the least significant player, the pawn, at the beginning of the Saga to the most important player, the queen, at the end of the series. The chessboard also hints at Breaking Dawn's resolution, where the battle with the Volturi is one of wits and strategy, not physical violence.

The pictures on the cover of The Twilight Saga represent key themes and elements within the series. For example, the apple on "Twilight" symbolizes temptation and choice, the flower on "New Moon" represents renewal and growth, the ribbon on "Eclipse" signifies bonds and connections, and the Chess piece on "Breaking Dawn" symbolizes strategy and sacrifice.

This is hard to explain so bear with me... The cover for Twilight - with the apple held in the palms of someone's hands - represents the Forbidden Fruit from the Adam and Eve story in the Bible, because Bella and Edward form a relationship, it is forbidden because vampires and humans aren't supposed to be together in a relationship. Hope that answered your question and I hope I said it right.

Twilight- Stephenie Meyer says on her website that twilight was not the easiest book to title and in the beginning she was going to call it Forks for lack of a better idea. Stephenie Meyer writes all the meanings on her website, this is what she says on her website: "the apple cover of twilight represents 'forbidden fruit'. i used the scripture Genesis (located just after the table of contents ) because i loved the phrase 'the fruit of knowledge of good and evil.' Isn't this exactly what Bella ends up with? A working knowledge of what good is, and what evil is. The nice thing about the apple is it has so many symbolic roots. You've got the apple in Snow White, one bite and you're frozen forever in a state of not-quite-death... Then you have Paris and the golden apple in Greek mythology-look how much trouble that started. Apples are quite the versatile fruit. In the end, i love the beautiful simplicity of that picture. To me it sats: choice."

New Moon- Stephanie Meyer says she had nothing to do with the cover of this book. All the names of the books have a meaning to for example Stephenie Meyer said new moon was called that because at the time of a new moon everything is dark in the sky. In the book New moon is the darkest period of Bella's life.

Eclipse- The tearing ribbon symbolises how Bella is torn between Edward and Jacob. Stephenie Meyer says the reason for this name as well because in the book when Bella is talking to Jacob and saying he's always been her sun, he says he can fight with clouds and make her happier but he cant fight with an eclipse, the moon-edward. Edward is the moon because they are opposites. He is saying he can't fight with an eclipse because he knows Bella loves Edward to much.

Breaking Dawn- The pawn and Queen chess pieces represent Bellas transformation; from weak to strong. because in the beginning she is helpless from werewolves and vampires and metaphorically a pawn in chess. But by the end of the book she is the main reason for a fight not to break out between the Volturi and the other vampires-ie she is the most important and powerful piece in chess at the end. Breaking Dawn is named this because it is the beginning of Bella's time as a vampire the break of dawn to her new life.

The Twilight Cover - The apple is a symbol that relates to the quote "the forbidden fruit tastes the sweetest". In the biblical story of Adam and Eve, they both know that they aren't supposed to touch or eat the fruit from the forbidden tree, yet they feel so compelled to that they can't resist. In Twilight, Edward and Bella know that their vampire-human relationship is going against fate, that they shouldn't continue seeing each other, but they simple can't resist.

The New Moon Cover - Stephenie has no say in the making of this cover. Her publishers created it...She doesn't know what the meaning behind the tulip is.

The Eclipse Cover - It's the frayed ends of Bella's life.

The Breaking Dawn Cover - The little pawn in the back of the picture represents Bella at the beginning of the book. The pawn is the weakest player in the game of chess; Bella was the weakest member of the Cullen family, she always felt inferior because she was human. Then the big chess piece in the front is the most powerful piece in a game of chess -- The Queen. It represents Bella at the end of the book; She's powerful, and it is basically because of her that they won the "battle" with the Volturi (in essence, they won the game of chess) The cover truly shows the transformation of Bella from the beginning of Twilight to Breaking Dawn.

My opinion of the cover of New Moon: New Moon is centered around the dark night for Bella, left alone in the woods by Edward. He left her heart bleeding and falling apart (like the flower). Sam Uley found her in the woods that night in the pitch black. Some part of Bella that noted that the sky was dark, with no moon to help her out of the woods. Like no one was there to help her out of the deep depression she was in. But when she met Jacob, he lit up her world, giving her a purpose in life. Jacob didn't make everything better, but he stitched up some of the hole in her heart. The flower is thriving, but not growing anymore, just like Bella's heart.

My opinion of the cover of Breaking Dawn: The chess game represents the battle with the Volturi. Chess is a game based on logic and the mind. During and after the time that Bella was mortal, no one could get into her mind. She is safe there. Most of the Volturi cannot hurt her or her family, once Bella extends her shield. The majority of the Volturi guard's powers are left useless, afraid to attack in front of the 'witnesses'. Bella is put on top, and becomes one of the most powerful in the clearing, explaining why she is shown as the queen piece. But as for the pawn, it stands for the blood and the determination she gave to be where she is now, an immortal. Breaking Dawn's cover shows how she changed, and how remarkable she really is, no matter what she thinks.
