Reptiles are very beneficial. They are an important part of the food chain in controling rodents, feeding on carrion, alligators are important even by creating dens and gator holes that help protect wetland species in droughts .

i have to correct this question as reptiles are more than meat eaters with hard shells.

reptiles are not only meat eater (carnivores)but veg eaters(herbivores)and also eat a combination of the two meat and vegetation(onivores)

not all reptiles have hard shells infact this only tends to be things like tortoises

reptiles have a thicker outer skin...crocodiles do not have shells they have a hard exo skeletal skin

snakes do not have shells they have a soft not slimey outer scaled skina nd ventral scales

reptiles of all types are in this world from diurnal(daytime)to nocturnal(night time)

reptiles roam through out the world from Britain with the humble grass snake to the slightly venomous adder right through to to Australia with the brown snake

other types are the deadly cotton mouth, cobra types, constrictors, venomous, non venomous in many shapes sizes and colors

i.e a burmese python can reach 200lbs plus and upto and a little over 20 feet in length and though generally docile can be potentially dangerous right through to the tiny anole a small lizard that though not dangerous can be a biter and even the false water cobra a south American rear fanged(this means if bitten the snake needs to chew to work its mouth back to the venomous teeth to invenomate)can also reach 10feet in length

i hope this has answered the question more clearly if not visit www.freewebs.com/norfolkdsreptiles to find a lot more information on a new norfolk company aiming to sell and educate about reptiles

thank you

if you are thinking of keeping a reptile diffrent types need diffrent things. if you want a gecko it dose not need a uv lamp. but if you want a dab tail or breaded dragon you will need a uv lamp. most can live in a 20 l tank but only one can stay in it. for food most eat crickrts and you will need culcum powder.

Reptiles slowly get more tired and weaker, when it gets cold eough they find a place to hide and sleep. They sleep until it gets warm if it's cold for too long the reptile adventuly dies due to a lack of food.

Reptiles eat plants, and meat. It depends on what reptile it is. Some can only eat meat, some can only eat plants, and some eat both. Reptiles eat in different ways.

Why birds and mammals are more active in the middle of winter than amphibians and reptiles?

Because reptiles and amphibians are cold-blooded and hibernate during winter. This means they respire very slow and become sluggish. When they hibernate they basically become uncounscious. Mammals on the other hand, are warm-blooded. This means they have a constant body temperature. During winter they need more food to burn for respiration and therefore are more active because they search for food all the time.
