Life, Liberty, and happiness. Yet, the government can't guarantee that you have any of these things . No one can guarantee that you will be happy. It is up to you to make yourself happy. The language of the Declaration was not a promise to the future, but a means to express a philosophy.

The Declaration of Independence grants each citizen the right to life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness.

The Bill of Rights guarantees the right to establish and practice religion without interference; the right of the individual to bear arms; the right to refuse quartering military personnel in their home; freedom from unreasonable search and seizure of their home or property; a citizen will not be held to answer to a capital or 'infamous' crime without the indictment by a grand jury; a citizen will not be required to twice put their life in jeopardy in answer for a major crime; will not be compelled in a criminal case to bear witness against himself; will not be deprived from life, liberty, or property with due process of law; will not have private property taken for public use without compensation; when criminally accused will have the right to a public and speedy trial with an impartial jury from the jurisdiction where the crime was committed, to be advised of the nature and cause of the accusation, to be confronted by the witnesses against him, a compulsory process to obtain witnesses in his favor, and the assistance of counsel for his defense; the right to trial by jury and once tried by jury, be otherwise reexamined in any Court of the United States; excessive bail will not be required, nor excessive fines be imposed, or cruel or unusual punishment be imposed.

These are a summary of the first eight original rights written into the Bill of Rights. You can find this whole document and the subsequent rights that have been added on the link below.
