They learn to hunt, to clean, to find water and much more from their mothers. A lot of what they know is based on natural instinct - cats are extremely intelligent and sensitive creatures. Some cats can be taught new things - more and more cats today are being taught how to use and flush a human toilet. Cats can learn their names, and to come when whistled on or called by their humans. They are creatures of habit - they often learn, for example, the time the family get home from work/school, and sometimes are found waiting for them at the same time every day. Cats usually can sense when someone is ill, and they tend to try to comfort the person. Cats can make around 100 different sounds, though they sometimes use only a quarter of these throughout their lives.
