Christians believe that one goes to either Heaven or Hell at death, depending on whether or not the person has received Christ as the payment for their sins. The Buddhist afterlife isn't a "location" per se, it's a release from the cycle of reincarnation. They believe if you reach Nirvana, you will no longer have to come back to earth in another reincarnation. You will instead become one completely with everything. Their idea of the afterlife, if you reach Nirvana, is also a release from any type of suffering.

christians view the after life as you either go to heaven, hell, and in some cases even purgatory. The cool thing about Pantheists is that there is no set belief of an after life. Some Pantheists believe in joining with the divine, non-existence, or even reincarnation. Since the concept of hell in Pantheism is utterly rejected by most if not all, the closest to the Christian thought process would be joining the divine. Though, this is still not highly similar, it does have similar ideas to Hinduism and Taoism.

This is an interesting question which is answered best by the Apostle Paul.

Christians believe as it is written, that all flesh beings have a soul (spirit) and that their soul existed prior to it entering the flesh, and exists past the death of the flesh body. This belief is documented by the Apostle Paul's explanation in 1 Corinthians chapter 15. Further, it is written that when the flesh body dies it returns to the earth, and the soul returns to God who gave it (Ecclesiastes 12:7). Its written in the 1st chapter of the book of Jeremiah "Before I formed thee in the belly I knew thee; and before thou camest forth out of the womb I sanctified thee, and I ordained thee a prophet unto the nations."

Christ is documented as being observed by the Babylonian king Nebuchadnezzar in the book of Daniel chapter 3 vs 24-25, nearly 500 years before he walked the earth in the flesh;

"Then Nebuchadnezzar the king was astonished, and rose up in haste, and spake, and said unto his counsellors, Did not we cast three men bound into the midst of the fire? They answered and said unto the king, True, O king. He answered and said, Lo, I see four men loose, walking in the midst of the fire, and they have no hurt; and the form of the fourth is like the Son of God."

It must be understood as it is written in 2nd Peter chapter 3 that there are three earth eons or ages. One has already occurred in which all souls were in attendance in the Heavenly body which Paul describes in 1 Corinthians, 15, and 1/3 were deceived by Satan as it is written in Revelation chapter 12.

The second is the one we live in now, where all souls are on probation in flesh bodies and will be judged according to their works (earned not given, see Revelation 20).

The third is known as the eternity in which only those souls who pass judgment (Revelation 20, 21) will be allowed to continue, those souls not passing judgment are destroyed in The Lake of fire.

There are volumes more text to support life after death in the Biblical Texts, but these first few verses, should allow those wanting to investigate this subject further some solid starting information.

The other world views of life after death can basically be divided into one of four categories:

a. Those who experience some sort of existence after their flesh body dies

b. Those who experience reincarnation after their flesh body dies

c. Those who become part of a greater single spirit after their flesh body dies

d. Those who do not experience any afterlife when their flesh dies

Hinduism believes in the transmigration of the souls, or reincarnation. The soul undergoes a cycle of rebirth and passes from body to body. Which body the soul moves into is determined by the goodness of a person's actions, known as karma.

There are several view about what happens when we die held by the various denominations within Christianity. From immediately upon death you either go to Heaven or Hell to death is akin to sleeping and awaiting our individual call to the judgment process.

Why were Shinto and Buddhism important to the development of Japanese culture?

The Shinto beliefs and Buddhism both contributed to most of modern day Japan's culture. The Shinto beliefs have influence in modern day Japan's marriage, birth, etc. because Shintoism was based on the celebration of life. However, the Buddhist ideas influenced modern day Japan's funerals. This is so because the Buddhist ideas were based on death and the acceptance of death. Therefore, the Shinto and Buddist ideas influence most of Japan's culture.
