Oh yes, they saw it. But they thought they were going to miss it. Icebergs are deceptive; only one tenth of an iceberg is seen above water, and nine tenths is below water, where you don't see it, so they thought it wasn't to big. But they were wrong. The iceberg was big enough to sink the entire ship within 2 hours and 40 minutes.
