Life was hard for a cowboy in the 1800's. They worked from dusk until dawn, for very little pay. They rounded up cattle, mended fences, branded cattle, drove cattle to market, and worked around the ranch.

I would think that cowboys would look forward to getting a meal from the chuck-wagon and being able to get enough rest at night all the while looking forward to the cattle-drive coming to an end , getting paid and spending part of it in town at a saloon having a beer as well as enjoying the company of one of those saloon-girls .

Being a cowboy was their job. Cowboys were hired by a farmer to herd their cattle and go on cattle drives. Performing their duties as a cowboy (loping, driving cattle, etc.) was their form of employment.

The Comanche Indians did many different things to entertain themselves, I will talk about one of them.

They stole horses from neighboring people in the southwest. Eventually, it became more of a game than a job. The Comanche Indians were skilled horsemen and knew how to steal a horse(s). They would steal from various European settlements at the time. From Texas to New Mexico all the way to Oklahoma. They traveled far and wide just to do this.

Games were made by the children when they had time to play, which wasn't that often.
