∙ 11y agoHe was the second British Astronomer Royal, and he realized that sightings of a bright comet in the past were probably the same object and correctly predicted its next return; that comet is now named after him. He also did a lot of work on magnetic anomalies, was Captain of a sailing vessel in the Royal Navy, and constructed one of the first actuarial tables.

Because his theory proved to be true Halley's Comet was named after him. Edmond Halley's theory still proves to be true as Halley's Comet flies by Earth every 75-76 years.
