He showed us about gravity, giving a huge boost to the science of astronomy.

He also invented (or discovered?) the profoundly important field of Calculus - though others argue the credit belongs to the German mathematician Leibnitz. Generally now though, both men are credited, as they discovered the techniques at about the same time but independently.
