I don't know what the "experts" say. But I know that Santa Claus name came from a young Polish boy named Nicholas. He was a rich nobleman. He was also a Christian and very goodhearted. At Christmas time he would go to the houses of the poor, in the dead of night, and leave bars of gold. He was canonized a Saint, hence St. Nicholas.
