They are a variant of the Black Bear, arriving in our world with colors ranging from black through brown, cinnamon, silver-blue, and yes, white. The white bear are known as "spirit bears" or "kermodes".

It's white because these directions can only be in the North Pole; a polar bear! The man lives at the Noth Pole, because that is the only point where the south-west-north walk starts and ends! So the bear is an ice bear!

as of 2012 the glacier bear is on the endangered species list. it is estimted that less than 120 are left in the wild. some mistake this bear as a black bear, as it's body is similar in appearance to tha black bear of North America, but they are not the same bears, and are silverish to white in appearance.
