Dolly's natural hair colour when she was little was a bright blonde. However, as she got older, it turned to a more dishwater shade. She didn't like it this colour, and so, began to wear wigs from the time she was 17 or 19. Though she wore the wigs so she would have brighter hair, Dolly also wore them because it was easier to make wigs do all the styles of the 60s, 70s and 80s, as her hair was stringy and thin. Now, she dyes her natural hair a peroxide blonde and wears wigs on top, using the fringe and bangs of her own hair to make the wig appear more real. She does not, however, wear wigs all the time, but most of the time.
