all pentecostal denominations do...there are MANY....also many charismatic churches and a few baptist....probably a few other groups within other denominational belief sysytems.
I do not know the answer to your question, but I can say something about the speaking in tongues. God blesses men to be able to speak in the language of the people they are addressing, even though they have never spoken that language before. He will also bless a people to understand what a person is saying even when he speaks in his own tongue. The one is the Gift of Tongues and the other is the gift of Interpretation of tongues. Speak not in the gift of tongues witout understanding it, or without interpretation.
Yes, but not in the way that many Pentecostal and Protestant churches do. Members of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints (the "Mormon" church) believe in the Bible, which says that speaking in tongues is one of the gifts or manifestations of the Spirit of God. (See 1 Corinthians 12:10) Also, one of their articles of faith states "We believe in the gift of tongues, prophesy, revelation, visions, healing, interpretation of tongues, and so forth." Mormons believe that the gift of tongues comes when one needs to bear witness of Christ to someone who does not speak the same language. Stories of the gift of tongues are often told by Mormon missionaries who are sent to places where they are unfamiliar with the language, but somehow the people they are teaching still understand them - much like the story found in Acts 2. Joseph Smith said, "The ultimate design of the gift of tongues is to speak to foreigners."
You cannot 'learn' to speak in tongues, it is a gift of the Holy Spirit, and nothing you learn if it is genuine. Some believe it is not given today, and was only for the early church to preach the gospel of Jesus Christ in the beginning of this church age.
No, That would be Pentecostals.
Yes, Mr. Graham does believe in the baptism of the Holy Spirit, but not in the manner of the Pentecostal, Holiness, Church of Christ, etc. It was/is the Church that was baptized(anointed) and not particular individuals. In order to participate in the power of this anointing one has first to be saved and then to become a part(member) of God's Church, the Church of the Lord Jesus Christ.
The most well-known difference between the Pentecostal church and SDA is that Pentecostal churches believe in the gift of speaking in tongues while the SDA emphasizes the observance of the 7th Day Sabbath (Friday at sundown to Saturday at sundown).
Well, the brain does everything. It controlls our thoughts, feelings and...tongue:)Answer:According to some denominations, once you are baptised evidence of the Holy Spirit in you is the manifestation of the gift of speaking in tongues.
To the best of my knowledge, the Catholic Church, of course, believes that the Apostles spoke in tongues, such that, each person who heard them could understand what they were saying. The gift of tongues is given to someone for the benefit of someone else - NOT for the speaker. The current trend of people babbling away in something not understood by anyone is more likely a sign of demonic activity, not the Lord. Remember that the Church is always in conformity with the Holy Spirit, as it is the Holy Spirit who guides Christ's body: the Catholic Church. Thus there can be no discrepancy between the Church's belief and God's gift to His people.
Acts 2:38 states that a person needs to repent and be baptised in the name of Jesus, and then they will receive the gift of the Holy Ghost. Receiving the Holy Ghost is evidenced by speaking in tongues. Once a person receives the Holy Ghost, then they will go to heaven.
No they do not. There is what is known as The Gift of Tongues and also The Interpretation of Tongues. The Gift of Tongues is when a person is given the gift from God to be able to speak in a language of the people he is addressing, when he has never spoken that language before. The Interpretation of Tongues is when a person speaks in his own language but is understood by those who do not speak that language. Those religions who claim to be able to speak in tongues only speak gibberish which is not understood be anyone, not even the speaker or God.
the gift of tongues
That was the true purpose of the "tongues" gift that he had. It enabled him to speak to, and understand those to whom he went out to, to evangelize. It was a necessary an legitimate use of the gift of tongues, and is not to be confused with the nonsense of "speaking in tongues" that certain sects of Christianity believe in today. Note: there will be a 2nd legitimate time, where the true gift of speaking in tongues will reappear, but it will be during the tribulation. It will be the necessary gift imparted unto the 144,000 Jewish witness's that Christ will appear to during the tribulation who will then "using this gift of supernaturally being able to speak in and understand other tongues (languages), to preach the gospel unto all people groups throughout the whole world before the end comes. Hope that helps.
