The pain maybe the result of another health condition. Some of the possible reasons could be gallbladder disease. There is also sharp pain in the chest area. Another cause could be peptic ulcer. Gastritis could manifest itself via pain near the abdomen. It could be because of Appendicitis too. Other reasons could be rib fractures.

∙ 9y agoPain in the side can be a sign of menstrual cramps in a female or even an appendicitis attack. Pulled muscles can also cause pain in the side.

My husband has this extremely sharp pain on his right side on his back, just below the rib cage. He also has had kidney stones and the pain is different than the type of pain they caused. It only hurts when he makes certain movements. He has had MRI's and an x-ray, but nothing shows up. Is it a muscle strain or does anyone else who has experienced this problem know what is causing this pain?
