ANSWER: It does not have fix .7 volts it has however an exponential VI curve which engineering take for practical as being .6 to.8 volts being forward conducting the voltage chosen depends on the actual current flowing a rectifier may have .8 volts while a signal diode may have .5 volts depending on the current flow.
