There are lots of uses for that little brown bottle of hydrogen peroxide. It is cheap, widely available and safe to use for the environment.

From washing cloths, to brushing your teeth, gargle like mouthwash, for ear infection the list goes on and on

Some alternative therapies suggest to drink little dose of hydrogen peroxide as a source of oxygen

note that ONLY food grade hydrogen peroxide is considered safe to use internally.

Is hydrogen peroxide the same as regular peroxide?

Yes, it contains the ordinary peroxide ion attached to two hydrogen ions.

Is hydrogen peroxide the same as peroxide?

Peroxide is an compound that can be a part of another chemical to form a molecule. Hydrogen peroxide is two hydrogen atoms attached to a peroxide molecule, forming hydrogen peroxide. Peroxide itself (O2) only exists as molecular oxygen when it is not attached to another chemical.

How many parts of oxygen are in hydrogen peroxide?

The chemical formula for hydrogen peroxide is H2O2, that is, two parts oxygen for every two parts hydrogen.

Why is hydrogen peroxide a molecule and a compound?

Hydrogen peroxide is a molecule and a compound because it consists of two elements, hydrogen and oxygen.

What are the uses for hydrogen peroxide?

It is most commonly used as a disinfectant and as a bleach.

Are peroxide and ammonia the same?

No, (hydrogen) peroxide and ammonia are two different chemicals.

Does hydrogen peroxide contain nitric acid?

No, hydrogen peroxide and alcohol are two very different substances.

What is the substrate of catalase?

A substrate is a substance in which an enzyme reacts. The substrate for catalase would be hydrogen peroxide otherwise known as H2O2.

Are water and hydrogen peroxide the same compound?

Far from it. Water contains one oxygen atom with two hydrogen atoms bonded to it. Hydrogen peroxide has two oxygen atoms each with its own hydrogen atom.Right now you're like, "well, so what?" The two oxygen atoms are connected with a single bond - the "peroxide group." Peroxides are very unstable and energetic. Pure hydrogen peroxide can be used as rocket fuel.

Can water and hydrogen peroxide be considered the same?

No, water (H2O) and hydrogen peroxide (H2O2) are two separate chemicals. However, hydrogen peroxide is an unstable compound which will eventually become water and oxygen gas.

Can you purify your water well with hydrogen peroxide?

No, hydrogen peroxide is H2O2, meaning in each molecule there are two hydrogen atoms and two oxygen atoms. Water is H2O, meaning that each molecules has two hydrogen atoms and one oxygen atom. Hydrogen peroxide has different chemical and physical properties from water. It is more acidic, more viscous, and has a higher boiling point. It decomposes easily into water and oxygen and is a strong oxidizer.
