That it functions as home to soil food web members, helps to channel water down to the water table, provides the necessary environment for plants to grow and structures to be built and shelters vital minerals, nutrients and trace elements are reasons why soil is important.

Specifically, the term generally designates the top 10-12 inches (25.4-30.5 centimeters) from Planet Earth's surface down through the "O" and "A" subterranean horizons. It is what makes the planet habitable for people and other living organisms. It serves as the medium by which structures can be made to house people and wildlife, in which surface water trickles down to replenish subsurface aquifers, and through which people and wildlife are able to nourish themselves.

Anchoring structures, providing food, and serving as shelter are just three ways whereby soil is important.

Specifically, the term designates the top of the earth's surface downward 10-12 inches (25.4-30.5 centimeters). It offers a medium in which human-made and natural structures - such as houses and plants - can stabilize. It provides air and water pore space as well as minerals, nutrients and trace elements vital for feeding the underground food web and nourishing the above-ground inhabitants of Planet Earth. It protects ground-dwelling and ground-nesting amphibians, birds, insects, mammals and reptiles.

A medium for being ambulatory, burying the dead, constructing buildings, and growing necessities is why soil is important to humankind.

Specifically, soil constitutes the top layer of the Earth's below-ground layers. It cooperates with being moved around so that buildings for business and shelter as well as roads for transportation can be built. It lets people bury their dead in a way that protects the deceased from post-mortem predation by above-ground wildlife. It also provides humans with the possibility of sustaining life through its role in the growing of edible, ornamental and useful plants.

Three reasons why soil is important?

soil is important because: Soil sustains life by helping plants to grow. It also harbors worms, beetles, fungi and bacteria, providing them with the nutrients they need to live. Without soil, there would be nowhere to grow food that is the sustenance of life. Soil contains food, water and air that is needed by plants to grow. The healthier the soil, the more nutrients a plant can soak up. The healthier the plant, the better it is for humans and animals to eat.
