The four lobes of the cerebral cortex are namely:

Frontal lobe: this is located at the front of the brain and is responsible for expressing language, reasoning, motor skills and higher level thought.

Subdivisions of frontal lobe:

prefrontal cortex: expression of personality and complex thought behaviors

premotor area:has nerves that control voluntary muscle movement

motor area: same as premotor

Parietal lobe: found in the middle portion of the brain and is responsible for sensory effects such as pressure and touch. The somatosensory cortex is located in this portion of the brain and allows processing of the senses.

Temporal lobe: this is located at the bottom of the brain and is responsible for auditory functions and interpreting languages and speech. The hippocampus locted in this area is very closely associated with forming memories.

Occipital lobe: this is found at the back of the brain and is responsible for interpreting visual stimuli
