A:

Mormons believe the Book of Mormon was delivered to Joseph Smith and translated into English by the resurrected Moroni in 1827. The first edition was published 1830. Comprising 15 parts or books, it has a similar structure to The Bible and Moroni seems to have translated the book into the same archaic English as used in the King James Bible. A translation error resulted in the double plural 'cherubims', reflecting a similar error in the KJV Bible, but this was corrected to the Hebrew plural (cherubim) in later editions. Some say that internal evidence demonstrates that all the books in the Book of Mormon appear to have been written by the same author.

The Book of Mormon follows the adventures of a group of faithful Jews who left Judah shortly before the Babylonian Exile and after an intrepid voyage, arrived in the Americas, where they settled. Many adventures followed, until exactly 1 AD, when the people saw visible evidence that Jesus was born. A new calendar commenced on this very date. Years later, on the 4th day of the first month of the 34th year of the new calendar, storms and an earthquake resulted in great destruction, no doubt reflecting the same events as described variously in the gospels. Soon after, the risen Jesus appeared in the Americas to 2500 men, women and children, who touched his wound and knew it was Jesus.

We are assured of the truth of Smith's claim to have been given the Book of Mormon on gold plates, because eight witnesses are recorded in the Book of Mormon as having sen and touched the plates.

Will Romney take the oath of office on the book of Mormon?

No. Mitt Romney will take the oath of office on the Bible. Mitt Romney believes that both the Bible and the Book of Mormon are scripture, and that both are of equal importance. He has no problem taking the oath of office on the Bible and would feel the same about swearing on the Bible as he would on the Book of Mormon. How are the book of Mormon and the quran the same?

They are both religious texts considered scripture by their believers, but otherwise they are not very similar. The Qur'an is comperable to the Bible and has some similar stories. Because Mormons use both the Bible and the Book of Mormon, there was no need to repeat the Bible stories in the Book of Mormon.

Why are people against Mormons but for the Bible?

The "Book of Mormon" is not the Bible, and many Christians are opposed to the Book of Mormon being placed beside or ahead of the Bible. One of the "solas" of the Reformation is "Scripture Alone." The Reformation's teaching is that the scripture stands by itself as the only rule we have for faith and practice. The objection is the Book of Mormon being elevated to the status that belongs only to the Bible.

Did the Book of Mormon plagiarize the KJV Bible?

No. Members of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints (commonly called the "Mormon" church) use the KJV Bible as well as the Book of Mormon, so there is no use in copying the Bible into the Book of Mormon. There are a few quotes from the Old Testament in the Book of Mormon, most of them from Isaiah. These do not count as plagiarism, however, as it is clearly stated that they are quotes. Plagiarism is when you try to pass someone else's work off as your own, not when you quote someone else. You can read the KJV Bible and Book of Mormon, as well as other scripture used by the Church, at the "Related Links" below.

Does the Bible does talk about the Book of Mormon?

Yes or no, depending on whether you are a Mormon -Isaiah 29:11-12 contains an oracle of a book that the recipient could not read because he was illiterate. If this is to be read as a prophecy of a book yet to be compiled, it could be a prophecy of the Hebrew Bible or the Christian Bible, but Mormons prefer to read it as a direct reference to the Book of Mormon.
